HIS MAJESTY'S SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES.

The humble Petition of Gulab late Jemedar in Police Force of the Colony of Hongkong.

Sheweth as follows:--

1. Your Petitioner is a Mahomedan and a native of the Punjab in the Empire of India.

2. Your Petitioner was formerly a private in the 28th Punjab Regiment from which Regiment he joined the Police Force in the Colony of Hongkong in the year 1890 as a constable; and after a period of eight and a half years, during which he performed his duties to the entire satisfaction of the Captain Superintendent of Police, he was promoted over the heads of upwards of seventy other constables to the rank of Sergeant. Two and a half years later Your Petitioner was further promoted out of ten or twelve others to the rank of Sergeant-Major, which rank he continued to hold for a period of five years, at the expiration of which he was further promoted to the rank of Jemadar, having already acted in that capacity for the previous thirteen months.
